Pyongyang (May 10). Marshal Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) met Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State of the United States of America on Wednessday, the KCNA – the official state media of DPRK reports.
The Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un warmly greeted Secretary Mike Pompeo and congratulated him on his recent official assumption as secretary of State. He welcomed the US State Secretary’s visit to the DPRK and had a photo session with him.
US Secretary Mike Pompeo thanked Marshal Kim Jong Un for sparing time to meet him and said that he came to the DPRK to personally convey the verbal message of the US President Donald Trump and prepare the DPRK-US summit.
After hearing the verbal message, Kim Jong Un thanked with appreciation for the deep interest of the US President in settling the issue through dialogue. He exchanged with Mike Pompeo the appraisal and view on the acute situation of the Korean peninsula, which is now a pressing matter of the whole world’s concern, and the stance and opinions of the supreme leaderships of the DPRK and the US on their summit.
“DPRK-US summit would be a historic meeting for the excellent first step toward promotion of the positive situation development in the Korean peninsula and building of a good future”, said Kim Jong Un.
An in-depth discussion was held at the meeting for reaching common consensus between the two governments on the practical matters for holding the DPRK-US summit, its procedure and ways.
According to the KCNA, the Supreme Leader accepted an official suggestion of the U.S. president for the release of Americans who have been detained in the DPRK for their anti-DPRK hostilities, and gave an order of the Chairman of State Affairs Commission of the DPRK on granting them amnesty and repatriate. He gave a high appreciation of the talks with Mike Pompeo that produced satisfactory results.
Mike Pompeo expressed his gratitude to Marshal Kim Jong Un and said that they were heartily grateful to him for the cordial hospitality accorded to them during their visit to Pyongyang and for the very beneficial talks which reached a full agreement. And he showed his resolution and will to strive for the successful DPRK-US summit as the U.S. secretary of State.
