The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is a people-centered state in which everything serves people. It was founded by President Kim Il Sung on 9 September 1948.
He led the anti-Japanese armed struggle to victory, liberated the country from the Japanese colonial rule and wisely led the struggle to build a democratic Korea, totally independent and prosperous.
On 10 September 1948, the next day after the foundation of the DPRK, he announced the first Political Program of the DPRK Government at the First Session of the Supreme People’s Assembly.
In the program, he clarified the tasks relating to achieving national reunification, building a sovereign and independent state and keeping independence in the domestic and foreign policies.
He also highlighted the issues of consolidation and taking forward the democratic reforms, such as the agrarian reform, the nationalization of industries, the Labor Law and the Law on Sex Equality enforced in north Korea, and striving to introduce them throughout Korea.
The program opposed the economic enslavement policy of the foreign imperialists to build Korea into a rich, independent and democratic state and asserted the building of an independent national economy and national culture.
President Kim Il Sung expounded in the program the concrete targets and methods to be pursued by the Government of the Republic in different sectors.
He declared: The Government will train large numbers of cadres needed in all fields of politics, the economy and culture; direct great efforts to advancing education, culture and the public health service; consolidate and develop the organs of the people’s power at all levels in every way; and strengthen the People’s Army in every respect to defend the territory of the country against foreign forces of aggression and to safeguard the gains already achieved through the democratic reforms.
The program, as the first historical political program of the DPRK Government, reflected the Government’s thoroughgoing conviction and will to build in the liberated Korea a prosperous state that would be independent, self-supporting and self-reliant in defense.
Today, the Republic is steadfast in pursuing independence in politics, self-supporting in economy and self-reliant in defense and continues on the road of prosperity.
Our agricultural workers are auspiciously celebrating the Foundation Day of DPRK, remembering the immortal exploits of President Kim Il Sung who devoted all his life to the effort to develop DPRK.
