Kathmandu: The historical 23rd National Conference of the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary), a student organization close to the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), has grandly begun at Kathmandu today. The national conference was inaugurated by former Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Comrade Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, in a grand ceremony held at the Memorial Hall of Tribhuvan University. According to the ANNISU (Revolutionary), 2 thousand 323 delegates are participating in the conference.

The All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary) serves as a beacon of hope and trust for the patriotic and revolutionary Nepali students, children of poor farmers, workers, landless people, Madhesis, Dalits, indigenous communities, marginalized groups, and the common working-class population. As a leading organization in the Nepali revolutionary student movement, the National Conference will run for four days in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, focusing on the election of the new leadership, discussion on educational issues, and planning future strategies for organization and struggle. The conference is set to elect a new central committee consisting of 243 members, including 33 officials.

As the most popular Student Union in the country; with an eight-decade-long history of educational and democratic movements, the legacy of the 10-year Great People’s War, built on the sacrifice of hundreds of leaders and cadres, holding the glorious legacy of the martyrdom of Ganga Lal, the first martyr after Lakhan Thapa, Chiniya Kaji Shrestha, who was killed protesting against the 1951 Rana-Congress Delhi Agreement, and 14-year old Dil Bahadur Ramtel, the first martyr of the Great People’s War and the true heir of revolution to carry forward the socialist revolution in Nepal, it is not only natural but essential for there to be a significant number of aspirants for the leadership of the ANNIFSU (Revolutionary).

The student organizations are also called the recruitment center for the communist movement, which is also a key to measuring the present and future of any communist party in a country. Therefore, the ANNISU (Revolutionary) has stated that the new leadership will be elected through a socialist approach, and if consensus cannot be achieved, a fair competitive environment will be created through the practice of the highest level of democracy.

The leadership of the All Nepal Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary) should be selected in such a way that the organization can overcome previous internal conflicts, end unfair competition and factionalism, unite the Maoist student movement, lead the broader student movement in the country, and contribute to the direction of socialist revolution. Every effort is being made to ensure that the electoral process for electing the new leadership is conducted harmoniously and dignifiedly, according to the union.
