Kathmandu. Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has decided on the responsibilities of its two chairpersons: Chairman KP Sharma Oli as Prime Minister and Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ as the Executive Chairman of the party.
Meeting of the Secretariat of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has made the decision Wednesday, unanimously.
Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has two Chairpersons after the unification of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre).
Among the two, Chairman Prachanda will act as the Executive Chairman of the party while Chairman KP Sharma Oli will continue his post of Prime Minister for his full tenure of five years.
At the time of the party unification, there was a 3 point agreement that there would be an equally shared tenure for the premiership between the two chairmen and the Chairman other than the Prime minister would be the Executive Chairman of the party.
The new decision has to be made after many veteran leaders of the party including the Ex-Prime Minister Comrades Jhalnath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal, and former deputy Prime Minister Comrade Bamdev Gautam demanded PM Oli to quit either of the posts.
However, PM Oli has been decided to continue both of the posts but handing over the executive authority of the party to the Chairman Prachanda.
Informing the media after the meeting, Comrade Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’, spokesperson and member of the party secretariat said, “Chairman KP Sharma Oli will focus on the government jobs as the Prime Minister whereas another Chairman Comrade Prachanda will focus on the party works with executive authority and the meetings will be operated jointly”.
