Havana, Aug 13. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on Thursday that the best tribute to Fidel Castro, the leader of the Cuban Revolution, is to control the new outbreaks of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On occasion of the 94th anniversary of his birth, the president stressed that the successes that led the country to control the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus are due to the work carried out by Fidel Castro.

Since the first Covid-19 cases were detected in Cuba in March, some 3,100 people became ill and 88 of them died.

Diaz-Canel, who considers that his government (since April 2018) is a continuity of those conducted by Fidel Castro and Raul Castro, used the labels #FidelPorSiempre, #SomosCuba and #SomosContinuidad.

Fidel Castro was born on August 13, 1926, in Biran, current Holguin province. He passed away on November 25, 2016. Ministers, intellectuals and personalities from the island and abroad recalled on social media the legacy of the revolutionary leader.
