Kathmandu. Comrade Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI-M), has demanded the release of all illegally detained Kashmiri people, who were arrested after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian constitution on August 5, 2019, and sentenced to jails of India and occupied Jammu and Kashmir without formal process of jurisdiction.

General Secretary Yechury while giving details of the proceedings of the two-day meeting of CPM’s Central Committee said, “This is essential for both combating the pandemic effectively and providing relief to the beleaguered people [of Jammu and Kashmir].”He also stressed for the restoration of full communications and free movement of people in occupied Kashmir.

The CPI-M Central Committee concludes that the situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir remains critical even after nearly a year of the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A and large-scale detention of thousands of people, including all prominent political leaders, and disruption of normal life in the territory.
