Recently in our country, several areas including Kangwon Province, North and South Hwanghae Provinces and Kaesong City suffered severe damage due to disastrous heavy rains and floods.
More than 730 single-floored houses and 600-odd hectares of rice field were inundated and 179 blocks of dwelling houses were destroyed in Taechong-ri Area of Unpha County, North Hwanghae Province alone.
39,296 hectares of crops were damaged nationwide, at least 16,680 dwelling houses and over 630 public buildings were destroyed or inundated, lots of roads, bridges and railway sections got broken and a dam of a power station gave way.
Comrade Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPR of Korea personally went to the affected areas of Taechong-ri, Unpha County, learned about the situation and clarified tasks and ways in detail for the recovery of the damaged area.
He called on the leading organs in the county including Party and power organs, working people’s organizations and public security organs to be responsible in stabilizing the living of the residents who lost their homes and comforting them. He also saw to it that every household in the afflicted area is supplied with the reserve food grains of the chairman of the State Affairs Commission.
He said that it’s of priority importance to quickly supply sleeping materials, daily commodities, medicines and other necessities to the flood-affected people to stabilize their living as early as possible. He entrusted this task entirely to the departments of the Party Central Committee and families of its officials.
At the moment, the people of Unpha County are forcefully carrying out the rehabilitation work including the construction of 800 model houses of farm villages together with the soldiers of the People’s Army who have come upon the order of Comrade Kim Jong Un.
In the 16th meeting of the Political Bureau of the 7th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Comrade Kim Jong Un briefed on the general situation of flood damage and said that the flood-stricken people must be suffering great as they are living in temporary dwelling places with their houses and family properties lost. He earnestly said that it is a crucial time that our Party must be responsible for their living and we have to go closer to them to share the pain with them and to relieve them of their sufferings.
He emphasized that we should spruce up the flood-damaged area to meet not only the desire and wish of the people but also the high standard of the times and ensure qualitative construction in appropriate places based on the opinions of the inhabitants so that no damage occurs even though more natural disasters and flood occur in the future.
The meeting issued a decision of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and the joint order of the WPK Central Committee, the Party Central Military Commission and the State Affairs Commission reflecting the immediate fighting tasks for finishing the most part of the flood damage rehabilitation and stabilizing the people’s living by October 10.
Right now, our agricultural workers are speeding up the rehabilitation work in cooperation with the soldiers of the People’s Army and working to minimize the damage on agricultural crops.
We believe that the friendly agricultural workers and organizations of different countries over the world would extend support and solidarity to our agricultural workers struggling to wash out the flood damage.
