Kathmandu. Six left-wing farmers’ organizations have strongly condemned Prime Minister Balendra Sah’s recent statement in Parliament, describing it as anti-national, surrenderist, and harmful to Nepal’s national dignity. The organizations have demanded that the Prime Minister immediately withdraw his remarks, issue a public apology to the Nepali people, and resign from office.
In a joint press statement issued on June 8, the organizations alleged that Prime Minister Sah’s remarks had undermined Nepal’s national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The statement was jointly issued by the All Nepal Peasants Federation (Revolutionary Centre), All Nepal Peasants Federation, All Nepal Peasants Federation (APFA), Revolutionary Peasants Federation Nepal, and All Nepal Progressive Peasants Association.
The organizations pointed out that the Indian ruling class has, for decades, encroached upon Nepali territory in several border areas, including Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura, while maintaining a military presence in occupied Nepali land. They also accused Indian authorities of repeatedly harassing Nepali farmers and residents living in border regions.
According to the statement, historical evidence and official documents clearly establish Nepal’s territorial boundaries. The organizations argued that Prime Minister Sah’s parliamentary remark that “Nepal has also encroached upon Indian territory in many places” was baseless, fabricated, cowardly, and surrenderist. They claimed that such statements serve to justify and conceal India’s long-standing encroachments on Nepali territory.
The farmers’ organizations further criticized the current government, accusing it of pursuing anti-people and neoliberal policies. They alleged that the government has used bulldozers against informal settlements, attempted to restrict student organizations and trade unions, imposed VAT on education, healthcare, and electricity services, and introduced policies and budgets that work against the interests of poor and marginalized communities.
The statement concluded by asserting that the Nepali people are prepared to engage in all necessary forms of struggle to defend the country’s national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and dignity.
The joint statement was signed by Chitra Bahadur Shrestha, Chairperson of the All Nepal Peasants Federation (Revolutionary Centre); Baldev Chaudhary, Convenor of the All Nepal Peasants Federation; Bhairav Raj Regmi, Chairperson of the All Nepal Peasants Federation (APFA); Sitaram Tamang, Chairperson of Revolutionary Peasants Federation Nepal; and Ramdular Mahato, Chairman of the All Nepal Progressive Peasants Association, and Durga Prasad Jaisi, Chairperson of the All Nepal Progressive Peasants Association.
