KATHMANDU. Five Communist and leftist parties of Nepal have jointly called for the immediate and unconditional release of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros, condemning what they describe as continued United States intervention in Venezuela and the abduction of the country’s elected leadership. In a joint statement issued on Monday, the parties accused Washington of violating international law, national sovereignty, and the right of peoples to self-determination, while reaffirming solidarity with the government and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
According to the statement, the military action carried out on January 3, 2026, and the forcible transfer of Venezuela’s leadership to the United States constitute a serious violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, the right of nations to self-determination, and popular sovereignty. The parties termed the incident an unprecedented escalation of US intervention in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.
The Nepali parties also criticized threats issued by the Trump administration to conduct military attacks not only against Venezuela but against other sovereign countries as well. They warned that such threats undermine global peace, weaken multilateral diplomacy, and erode the foundations of international coexistence, while reviving coercive practices associated with the colonial era.
Rejecting claims that Venezuela is diplomatically isolated, the statement emphasized that the country remains an active, dignified, and important member of the Non-Aligned Movement, which has historically opposed authoritarianism, military blocs, and hegemonic intervention. The Nepali parties argued that the attack on Venezuela represents a broader assault on the Non-Aligned Movement itself, as well as on the emerging multipolar world order and the principle of independent foreign policy.
The statement further described the Bolivarian Movement as a pro-people and socialism-oriented process rooted in the struggles of workers, peasants, indigenous peoples, women, youth, and other oppressed groups. It rejected US allegations related to drug trafficking, arms, or terrorism, asserting that the real motivation behind the attack lies in efforts to gain control over Venezuela’s natural resources, including its mineral wealth.
Citing a long history of hostile measures, the parties accused the United States and its Western allies of imposing economic blockades, unilateral coercive sanctions, political destabilization, and failed coup attempts against Venezuela, culminating in open military aggression and abduction. Such actions, they stated, represent grave violations of international law and pose serious challenges to global peace and human civilization.
The joint statement put forward four key demands: the immediate and unconditional release of President Maduro and Cilia Flores and the withdrawal of all allegations against them; full respect for Venezuela’s constitutional government and sovereignty; an immediate end to all US military attacks, political interference, and economic blockades; and the lifting of unilateral sanctions to ensure the Venezuelan people’s right to self-determination, independent development, and trade.
Expressing solidarity with the Venezuelan government and people, the Nepali parties called on the Non-Aligned Movement, the United Nations, and progressive, democratic, socialist, and anti-imperialist forces worldwide to take collective and diplomatic action against foreign intervention, the abduction of a head of state, and threats of war. They concluded by emphasizing that the defense of peace, sovereignty, and a socialist alternative has become a shared responsibility of the international community.
The statement was jointly signed by Mohan Bikram Singh, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Masal); Leelamani Pokhrel of the Nepal Communist Party; C.P. Mainali, General Secretary of the Nepal Communist Party (ML); Damodar Aryal, Politburo Member of the Nepal Communist Party (United); and Rashmi Raj Nepali, Acting Chairperson of the National Peoples’ Front (RaJaMo).

Joint Press Statement Issued Against the US Imperialist Attack on Venezuela and the Abduction of President Nicolás Maduro Moros
We, the undersigned Communist and leftist parties of Nepal, jointly condemn and denounce in the strongest terms the military attack carried out by US imperialism on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on January 3, 2026, as well as the abduction and forcible transfer to the United States of the constitutionally elected President Nicolás Maduro Moros and the First Lady and Bolivarian leader Cilia Flores, as these acts constitute a naked assault on the Charter of the United Nations, international laws, the right of nations to self-determination, and the sovereignty of the people.
We strongly oppose the threats issued by the US Trump administration to carry out military attacks not only against Venezuela but also against other sovereign states, as such attacks and threats undermine world peace, multilateral diplomacy, and the foundations of international coexistence, and represent a dangerous attempt to legitimize bullying reminiscent of the colonial era.
Venezuela is neither isolated nor alone. It is an active, dignified, and important member of the Non-Aligned Movement, which has historically raised its voice against authoritarianism, military alliances, and hegemonic intervention. This attack is not merely an attack on Venezuela; it is an attack on the entire Non-Aligned Movement, the multipolar world order, sovereign nations, and independent foreign policies.
The Bolivarian Movement is a pro-people and socialism-oriented program born out of the struggles of workers, peasants, indigenous peoples, women, youth, and oppressed classes. It is widely evident that the attack on Venezuela is not related to drug trafficking, arms, terrorism, or any other such pretexts, but is instead a conspiracy aimed at seizing control over natural resources, including mineral wealth. For this reason, Western countries under US leadership have, for a long time, imposed economic blockades, unilateral coercive sanctions, political destabilization, failed coup attempts, and various conspiracies, ultimately resorting to open military aggression and abductions. These actions are not only grave violations of international laws but also serious challenges to human civilization.
In this context, we firmly put forward the following demands:
1. All baseless allegations of drug trafficking, arms stockpiling, and support for terrorism leveled against President Nicolás Maduro Moros and his spouse, Bolivarian leader Cilia Flores, must be withdrawn, and they must be immediately, unconditionally, and safely released.
2. Full respect must be accorded to Venezuela’s constitutional government and national sovereignty.
3. All forms of US military attacks, political interference, and economic blockades against Venezuela must be immediately ended.
4. All unilateral coercive sanctions imposed on the Venezuelan people by the US Trump administration must be lifted, and the people’s right to self-determination, independent development and trade must be ensured.
We express firm international solidarity with the government and the courageous people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and we call upon member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, the United Nations, international progressive, democratic, socialist, and anti-imperialist forces, as well as workers, peasants, youth, and the intellectual community worldwide, to engage in struggle, solidarity, and collective as well as diplomatic initiatives against US intervention, the abduction of the head of state of the sovereign nation of Venezuela, and threats of war. The defense of peace, sovereignty, and the socialist alternative has today become a shared responsibility of all humanity.
Stop imperialist wars and threats!
Fully respect Venezuela’s sovereignty and the right to self-determination!
Let’s safeguard the independence and dignity of the Non-Aligned Movement!
Long live international solidarity with the Bolivarian Movement!
