Prachanda extends National Rice Day and Paddy Planting Day 2083 greetings, calling for farmer-friendly policies, timely agricultural inputs, increased food production, and agricultural self-reliance in Nepal.

Kathmandu. Comrade Prachanda, Convenor of the Nepali Communist Party, has extended his heartfelt greetings to farmers and all Nepalis on the occasion of National Rice Day and Paddy Planting Day 2083 (2026), urging the government to prioritize farmer-friendly policies and strengthen efforts toward agricultural self-reliance.

In a message issued on the occasion, Comrade Prachanda described agriculture as the backbone of Nepal’s economy, emphasizing that the country’s food security and prosperity are built upon the tireless labor, dedication, and sacrifices of working farmers.

He expressed serious concern that, despite the peak paddy planting season, many farmers continue to face shortages of essential agricultural inputs, including chemical fertilizers, quality seeds, irrigation facilities, and other farming materials.

“Even during this crucial planting season, farmers have not been able to access fertilizers, seeds, irrigation, and other essential agricultural inputs with ease. I therefore urge the government to give serious attention to increasing agricultural production through farmer-friendly policies and programs and to building a self-reliant national economy,” Prachanda said in his message.

He stressed that Nepal cannot achieve sustainable economic development or ensure long-term food security without addressing the fundamental challenges confronting the agricultural sector. He called on the government to implement practical measures that support farmers, increase agricultural productivity, and reduce dependence on food imports.

Prachanda further expressed his hope that National Rice Day would renew respect for farmers and inspire a stronger national commitment to increasing agricultural production, achieving food sovereignty, and building a prosperous Nepal through a vibrant agricultural economy.

Concluding his message, he extended his best wishes to all farmers and the Nepali people for happiness, prosperity, and a successful paddy planting season.
